Validation of experience
Validation of experience is a right open to all. It allows any person engaged in working life to have their professional experience recognised and validated, with a view to obtaining all or part of a degree.
This system, which is based on the French law of 17 January 2002 (known as the Social Modernisation Law) and decree No. 2002-795 of 3 May 2002, is specific to higher education .
According to the decree No. 2013-756 of 19 August 2013 relating to the education code (books VI and VII) and the labour code, which repealed the decrees of 1985 (VAPP) and 2002 (VAE), two schemes are possible :
- Validation of Personal and Professional Skills (VAPP)
- Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE)

Validation of Personal and Professional Skills
The VAPP scheme allows you to access a university course without the degree normally required thanks to your professional or personal experience. This procedure is free of charge. For example : your professional or personal experience may enable you to enrol in a fourth-year course without having the third-year prerequisite.
Access requirements
- You are at least 20 years old
- You have interrupted your initial studies for at least 2 years
1. 1. Like all applicants to the course, you pre-enrol online on the “Applications” platform
You can describe your background and provide supporting arguments for your request for VAPP in the “Motivations” section. Be sure to highlight your professional background in this section.
You can also send any supporting documents by post to the pedagogical secretariat of the relevant course or contact us for further information fc@univ-eiffel.fr
2. The pedagogical committee of the course meets to evaluate and select the applications received. It examines the following elements :
- Studies undertaken in public or private institutions, in initial training or lifelong learning
- Foreign qualifications
- Professional or extra-professional experience acquired during an employed or self-employed activity or internship
- Knowledge and skills acquired outside any training system (association, committee, trade union, travel as a student, etc.)
3. At the end of this process, the pedagogical commission makes its decision. Applicants admitted will fall under the lifelong learning scheme.
Please note
- Approval authorises you to apply for the course, but does not dispense with selection if this is provided for in the recruitment procedures for applicants for the course
- Approval recognises a level of prerequisites, but does not award the degree for which the exemption was granted.
